WELCOME

To the online portfolio of artist Doug Baulf

The site showcases a selection of artwork that have been created using mixed media.
Charcoal and lead sketches, acrylic and oil paintings, digital designs using Procreate, all original in conception and application.
I aim to capture light as it falls upon the land and figure, interpreting it with colour and shape as intuitively as I can.
The human form, the animal kingdom, beautiful architecture, dereliction, pop culture, landscapes and portraiture are all subjects of interest and I endeavour to produce art that is both skilled and fresh in its approach.
Please take a moment to scroll through the images and then contact me if you wish to buy or commission.
Thank you.

LIFE DRAWING

Mixed media studies

From Art School to Night School I have desired to capture the human form through studies in Life Drawing.
It is both the most challenging and rewarding practice of ability.

"Drawing is the artist's most direct and spontaneous expression. A species of writing: it reveals, better than does painting, his true personality."

PROFILE

About Doug Baulf

From early childhood I had the ability to draw well and was greatly encouraged by my family to learn the craft fully and head towards a future of art and design.

40 years later and I am still learning, experimenting with media, subject and composition daily.

When I was 17 in 1982, I won the opportunity to paint a mural at a local equestrian centre. Six more, 20ft x 8ft pieces, followed that summer and after a foundation year at art school I started my first business "Baulf's Brickart" - Murals by Commission.

An ice skating rink, working mens clubs, portraits and pets were the orders of the day and I developed sales and branding skills whilst my peers developed their social drinking skills.

A sign business and an online clothing business have followed and each have enabled me to be creative and happy on a daily basis, but my true vocation is to compose artwork through sketching, paint and digital design.
